Yet Another Battle

So, we moved into this apartment complex in June. It wasn’t the first of June, so they backdated the paperwork to say it was the first of June so I could do a three month lease. I told them before I signed the lease that I was moving out at the end of August so we could get to Oklahoma. We provided them with a copy of our PCS orders when we paid the July rent and they told me to bring a move-out letter when I paid the rent in August. So I did. Well, now they say I didn’t follow the terms of the lease and have to pay rent for September as well. We’re not going to be here. Someone else is going to be living in this apartment. We’re also going to be paying rent on another apartment. We don’t have an extra $1,000 to throw around.

I’m just so angry. I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried compromising with them, talking to different supervisors and telling them I’m going to Navy Legal. I’ve also tried calling their managing company’s office, but they never return my calls. Nothing works. They said they’d just send us to collections if we didn’t pay. I’m so tempted to just let them send us to collections and then negotiate with the collections agent. Then we’d have a little while to save some money and could pay less than what they’re trying to get from us now. Our credit score is over 800, and I researched how collections will affect it. It said if we get it resolved within 6 months and the collection agency turns in a report saying we paid it off right away, then there is a possibility it could be taken off our report. If not, it will be less points than letting it sit there. So, I’m not sure what we’re going to do.

Caleb took the lease and the two letters I wrote to work today and is going to try to get into Legal this morning. I hope it works. I’m just so frustrated. We don’t have an extra $1,000 and we don’t have money for an attorney. I’m pretty sure Navy Legal is free, but I’m not 100% sure about that.

I’m just so tired of stuff like this. We had a problem with a lease a few years ago, too. We moved out, someone else moved in and they wanted us to keep paying rent. We had to get Caleb’s CO involved in that one because it was a lease signed with other Navy guys. What a mess that was. I hope this one doesn’t take as long and isn’t as messy. I just want it over with and not to have to pay $1,000 to this liars.
