Crazy Weather

Well, today it is 19 degrees outside. When I woke up two hours ago, it was 17. I’m so glad I’m not going anywhere today. I did have an interview for noon, but it’s 45 minutes away and I’m pretty sure I was going to turn it down, so I just cancelled it. I had an interview on Friday with a litigation firm that I really want. It pays really well and has really flexible hours. Like, if I wanted to leave early on a Friday so Caleb and I could go out of town, I could work extra hours earlier in the week to make up for that. Same for any day I had a doctors appointment or anything like that. I also can work between 30-40 hours a week, depending on how I felt that week. Kinda cool. He’s making his decision on Wednesday, so I’m calling first thing Wednesday morning. lol.

Other than that, not too much is going on. The news last night said there could be power outages and water problems this week, so I’ve been filling out two 5-gallon water jugs and anything else that will hold water. I’ve also gathered all of our batteries and am charging all the rechargeable ones. I’m also keeping my phone charged all day and making a list of stuff we’d need in case things go bad. For the most part, we don’t need much. Caleb wants to get a pack of water bottles, just in case, and I want to get more batteries. We’ve got plenty of food. Our freezer inside is full of frozen meat and vegetables and our cupboards are full of boxed foods and canned veggies. So, I think we’ll be okay. Our deep freezer outside is mostly empty, so if the power does go out we’re just going to take all our food outside and put it in there. We’ve got a two little propane stoves. One we have propane for and the other we don’t. I guess we should add that to our list. lol.

There’s nothing else really I can do to prepare. I decided to do all the laundry today just in case the power goes out for a long time and we aren’t able to use the washer. I’m honestly not expecting the power to go out, but I want to be prepared just in case. I’d so much rather be safe than sorry. It would suck to just blow the warnings off and not be prepared. One of my old coworkers said her power went out for 3 weeks last year. Hopefully that doesn’t happen here. I’d love to get a generator, but they ranged from $300 to a few thousand. So, we can’t afford one. lol. Well, we could if we took it from savings. I guess we should at least talk about that option.

As far as Sadie goes, she’s good. We have tons of cat food. Caleb bought a different kind of cat food than we normally get because Wal-Mart was out, but Sadie wouldn’t eat it so we bought her regular kind a few days later and mixed the two together. So, she’s good. lol. We bought kitty litter a few days ago as well as litter deoderizer. She’s got her toys, treats and her bed, so she’s going to be fine.

We have tons of candles, blankets, cold medicine, Excedrine Migraine, bandaids, three small portable water filters so if we run out of water and have to melt snow (or something like that) they will filter the ickies out, an battery-powered lantern, 8 flashlights, a billion batteries, etc.

Oh, I almost forgot about the bird. lol. Sweetie should be okay, too. If the power goes out and we don’t have heat in the house, we’ve got tons of blankets to put over her cage. We have a bag and a half of bird food and tons of bird treats, so she’ll be okay, too. She’s got her little cloth birdhouse, too, so that will help her stay warm. We’ll probably move her into the master bathroom if the power goes out because that’s the furthest away from outside walls, which is where the cold will be the strongest.

I’m not sure what else to do to prepare. We have food storage in the pantry as well as in the back of the car. There was nowhere inside to put it, so we just left it in the trunk. lol. We have a billion books, puzzle books, puzzles, board games, card games, etc, to keep us occupied, so I think we’ll be okay. We also have a spare room and four blow-up mattresses so that if other people need a place to stay, they can come here.

So, yeah, that’s my day today. lol. I’m having fun, though. I love doing organizational things and that’s just all this is. Getting organized and being prepared.

Well, I hope the power doesn’t go out but it sounds like you will be prepared if it does! That’s good! Good luck with your interview. Hope you get the job. It sounds like it would work out great!
