Healthy Living and Spark People

Well, a week or so ago Caleb and I decided we were going to make an effort to lose weight and get in shape. I’ve gained 15-20 lbs since we got married and Caleb gained about 60 lbs. Needless to say, neither of those is good. So, we decided to do something about it. Now that we are done with our crazy moving. lol. I guess it’s hard to lose weight and keep it off when you’re moving every few months. In the past two and a half years, we’ve moved five times.

  • After we got married, I moved to Portsmouth,Virginia, where Caleb was stationed and living with friends
  • Two months later we moved into our own apartment in Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • One year after that I moved to Utah and Caleb moved onto the ship for a deployment
  • Seven months after that we moved to Newport News, Virginia, as Caleb was home from deployment and had to be in Virginia for a few more months
  • Four months later we moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma, where we currently are.

Crazy crazy crazy. It’s hard to eat healthy when you’re in a current state of unpacking/packing and driving cross country. We’ve driven cross country 4.5 times. Twice to Virginia, twice to Utah and once to Oklahoma. Yikes. That is a lot of driving.

Anyways, because of the constant state of chaos, we found it hard to keep up with eating well and exercising. But now, we are going to be in Oklahoma for three years, so this is the perfect time to start re-establishing healthy eating habits and get back into exercising.
It also helps that we have a dog. lol. Caleb takes her on walks several times a day and while he’s at work, I take her on several more walks. So, we’re already starting to get some cardio in. Now we just need to work on all the other stuff.
The site we are using to keep track of our progress is Spark People. It’s a site I started using while Caleb was deployed and I really like it. It makes things so easy as far as keeping track of calories/fat/sodium etc, planning realistic weight loss goals and keeping track of exercise plans. The cool thing is that the site can alternate between giving you a meal plan to stay within your calorie goal or letting you plan your own meals and add them to your day. It also does the same with exercising. The site will give you exercises to do for a whole body workout (you can choose with or without equipment) or you can do your own exercises and add them to your day. It’s really easy and I love doing it. If any of you decide to go with Spark People, my user name is MrsNielson and Caleb’s is itscaleb. I hope to see you there!
