Pneumonia

Well, it’s official. Troy has a mild/moderate case of pneumonia. It’s a good thing he doesn’t have full-blown pneumonia or H1N1. It still sucks, listening to him coughing and wheezing, but I’m glad we finally know what it is and have some medicine. The doctor gave him some meds to take in the morning, some more to take in the evening and another set to take three times a day. Oh, and cough syrup. I’m a little nervous about one of his meds because it says it can cause problems during an asthma attack, but Troy isn’t too concerned about it, so I’ll just have to keep an eye on him. He uses his inhaler just about every time he coughs and he is short of breath for quite a while after he finishes coughing. It really sucks and I wish there was something I could do.

I’ve been researching pneumonia and the fact that Troy has asthma makes him more susceptible to pneumonia. Several of the medical articles I’ve read state that a cold or flu can morph into pneumonia more commonly in people who have asthma or other long-term medical issues. We were both sick in Myanmar, but I thought it had more to do with being intolerant of the food than anything serious. Perhaps we both had a touch of the flu and his has morphed into something worse.

We’ll probably never know what the root cause of it is, but at least we know what it is now and have stuff to treat it with. And I’m glad we bought so much juice from the food delivery company. It’s all 100% juice and he’s been drinking a lot of it the past several days. The vitamins from the fruit will help him along with his medicine. If he takes it. The last time he was on antibiotics he didn’t take them for several weeks because he didn’t really want to take them and once he did start taking them, he’d forget a dose here and there. He’s good about taking stuff when I remind him, so I’ll just have to keep track of when he’s taking stuff to make sure he doesn’t forget a dose. I gave him his cough syrup a little while ago and he did the adorable “I don’t want to take that” face and said it smelled gross, but he drank it. He said it tasted awful. haha. But at least he took it and hopefully it will start working soon.

Please say prayers and send happy thoughts Troy’s way. He just feels so awful and has been so weak the past several days. Every prayer and good vibe will help.
