2014 Recap

Well, 2014 is officially over. Crazy how fast that year went by. To celebrate, I thought I would do a little recap of my year and what was so special about each month.

January

In January, my mom came to visit. Yay! There wasn’t a whole lot to do because several things close for the winter in Salem and Portland, but we still had a good time wandering the streets of Portland, touring a steamer ship, visiting the coast, riding the carousel here in Salem and going to the Tillamook Cheese Factory when I wasn’t doing homework. Troy and I also got settled into his new house (i’m his roommate/housekeeper/chef) and explored the area a bit.

February

There was a rare snowstorm here in February and Troy got to stay home for a few days. We had a lot of fun playing in the snow and building a snowman. Once the snow melted, we explored the city a bit and went up to Portland to check out what’s up there.

March

In March, Troy’s company (Fast Enterprises) had their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and this year it was in Florida. The company rented The Wizarding World of Harry Potter for a few hours one evening and then after the meeting was over, Troy and I spent a few days exploring Florida and looking for alligators!

April

April was a fun month. The semester ended and I got A’s in all of my classes. Yay! Troy and some of his coworkers started playing basketball in a local league, which I enjoyed watching . Troy and I also hiked a waterfall trail that was so beautiful!

May

May was our two-year anniversary. Crazy how time flies. Both of my parents came out for a visit this time and it was a lot of fun taking my dad to see the coast as well as taking both of my parents to all the places that had been closed in January. There was also an Iris Festival and a Tulip festival here, which Troy and I had lots of fun visiting.

June

June was pretty uneventful. I worked on some craft projects and took pictures around town. Troy and I also did some more hiking. AND, it was Troy’s birthday, but he didn’t want to go do anything. lol.

July

In July I went home for a family reunion while Troy went up to Salt Lake City to visit his family. We met up in SLC so I could attend his nephew’s baby blessing. We also went on a trip to the Oregon coast to see the seals and Troy participated in a kickball league with his coworkers.

August

August was an interesting month. In August we went camping out at Crater Lake and had tons of fun hiking and exploring for a couple days. But then Troy had to go out of town for work  for the next few weeks and I got to stay here and do homework. When he got back, though, we went on a few photo excursions. Before school started, Troy bought me a new blog as an early birthday present since I’d been talking about splitting my blog, but I was so slammed with school that I didn’t have time to work on it until December! Also, my external hard drive failed and, after spending three weeks trying to fix it ourselves, I had to ship it off to see if it could be recovered.

September

In September we made up for the lack of adventure in August. We spent Labor Day hiking around the coast as well as visiting the Brigittine Monastery, going to a Civil War reenactment and doing an early morning photo stop at an area park. It was a fun month. Oh, and I got my repaired hard drive back. Yay!

October

October was a bit of a trying month. Sadie got sick and had to go to the vet a few times, which stressed me out a lot. But, my birthday is in October, so there were some good things. Both Troy and my parents got me new pots & pans, which I love and use them every single day. We did do one small walk around a neighborhood park and there was also a fun Halloween party which we both completely enjoyed.

November

November was a pretty boring month. I had so much schoolwork to do that I was doing homework every weekend and we couldn’t go anywhere. Sadie ended up needing a tooth removed, so that was the only eventful thing that happened all month. Well, except for Thanksgiving. Troy’s company organized a Thanksgiving dinner at a super nice local restaurant, so it was nice to be able to relax for a day.

December

School ended! lol. The semester ended and I have been able to breathe and actually do stuff. We went out to look at lights a few times, went to a church Christmas party, went to Troy’s work Christmas party, did 12 Days (which Troy was iffy about, but ended up having a lot of fun with it) and spent the day after Christmas hiking up around Sahalie Falls and Blue Pool.

Overall, 2014 was a great year. As stressful as school was during both semesters, I’m still happy that I’m finally getting my degree. And even though we didn’t go on any big trips (international), we did get to go to Utah and Florida as well as spending more time with family. We did quite a bit of hiking and exploring here in Oregon and enjoyed learning more about where we are going to be living for the next three years. Troy finally got to meet his little niece (who he adores to pieces) and he got to see his newborn nephew shortly after he was born. I’ve made some new friends, gotten my blog running better and ended the year with an additional 7 A’s and one A- on my transcript. It was a good year and I’m really looking forward to what 2015 is going to bring.

Such a wonderful review of 2014 and great pictures! I was thinking of doing something similar, but my review wouldn’t be nearly as comprehensive as yours. I’m not even sure I would have enough pictures each month worth sharing.

I’m not sure what your schooling involved or what you degree is – I guess I’ll have to go see if I can find out! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! I had a hard time finding photos for some of the months and had to go through my phone. Lol. It was fun, though. As for my degree, I’m working towards a Computer Information Technology major with a History minor.

How fun!! See this is what I miss about living in Arizona. We don’t get seasons so I feel like I miss out on so much! Hopefully I will be moving back home to Chicago soon so that I can have snow and build snowmen 🙂

Two of my brothers live in Phoenix and I went out there for New Year’s a few years ago. It’s amazing how warm it was there. It’s a nice break from winter cold, but I think I’d miss the cold if it wasn’t here at least for a little while.

It looks like you had a great year! I always love reading what other Oregonians are up to (I’m at OSU in Corvallis, from Eugene) and the local adventures to be had. I’ve always wanted to go to the Tillamook Cheese Factory- I’ll have to plan a trip up that way soon!
