Kuala Lumpur Lake Garden Park – Taman Tasik Perdana

On Sunday, Troy and I decided to go for a quick walk around on of the parks here. I’ve been meaning to go there and explore, but wasn’t really sure how to get there. It’s right across the street from the National Museum, but after my last attempt of walking back from there, I decided I’d better get a route mapped out BEFORE I try to walk there on my own. Though, in my own defense, I hadn’t planned on walking home last time. If Mr. Taxi Driver had just given me a ride, I would have made it home just fine. Oh well. At least Troy was able to help me navigate home and  now I know how to walk to both the museum and the park, so all is well.

During church, my mind was wandering (oops haha) and I was thinking about things I wanted to do this week and I thought about the park that is close to our apartment. I’ve been meaning to go there for a few weeks, but I’ve always had other things going on or I didn’t feel like going or it was raining or I was afraid of getting lost again. Excuse after excuse after excuse. So, I decided to get rid of one of my excuses and provide myself with a way to get there. Troy had shown me the route from the hotel when we first got here two months ago, but seeing the way from the 33rd floor of a building and trying to navigate it on the ground are two different things. Some people are okay navigating that way, but me, not so much. I have a much easier time if I can see the actual route. Which is why I asked Troy to show me how to get there. He’s been giving me suggestions for things to do during the day cuz I think he’s worried about me being home alone so much, so he was very willing to show me how to get somewhere that is close to the apartment and that he thinks I will like. He’s suggested me going there a few times, but I always made excuses not to. I’ve wanted to go, I just have a hard time sometimes. I think I’m starting to fall back into my recluse habits. I’ve always had a hard time going to new places alone and I have a hard time with people I don’t know. It’s so much easier to just stay home and not deal with any of it. But I want to break out of that way of living. I’m not so much interested in making tons of friends here anymore (tried last week and was clearly shown that the other stay-at-home women here do NOT want to be friends with me), but I do want to get out and explore more. So, Troy and I went to the park.

The park we went to is called Taman Tasik Perdana or the Lake Gardens. It is very pretty and very close to the apartment (point A on the map). We tried two different ways of getting to the park, going through the train station and going around it. One way took about 16 minutes and the other way took about 13 minutes. I liked going around the train station because it seemed a more direct route, but Troy liked going through the train station and under the parking garage for the hotel we stayed in when we first got here because it is more shady. It doesn’t really matter, though, because the time difference is fairly negligible.

We weren’t at the park very long, just long enough to see a little bit of the gardens and feed some deer. Troy had wanted to take me into the deer park and show me around there, but it was closed off, so we just found some deer by the fence and fed them there.

Aside from the deer park, there is a bird park, butterfly park and an orchid garden along with jogging paths, picnic tables, a playground and boats to rent. Though, the deer park is the only place (aside from the actual park and lake) that is free to go in. But that’s okay. I think the park is going to be a great place for me to relax and spend time. And it will also be a great place for me to branch out and explore from. According to the maps and other websites I’ve looked at online, the park is also pretty close to other points of interest: National Museum (walk right past it to get to the park), National Monument, Parliament House and the Planetarium.

I’m pretty excited about the potential of this park. I can just go there and read or work on my book or take pictures or I can wander around and just look at all the pretty scenery. It will be something good for me to do on my own. I can get there by myself and can spend as long as I want there. Troy advised that I bring a little backpack with water and snacks, which is a good idea because it can get super hot here. We were only out for about an hour on Sunday and we were both sweating a lot by the time we got home. The humidity really does increase the heat. That’s okay, though. It’s usually pretty nice in the mornings, so I can go do that when it’s cool and then come home and do the dishes and whatever else I need to around the house in the afternoon when it’s hot and/or raining.

I took a few pictures while we were at the park on Sunday so I could post them on here. I’ll take more when I go back and spend more time there. Hopefully the deer park will be open and I can see more of the deer.
